RVA

Since 1906, Rift Valley Academy has sought to educate the children of missionaries who serve throughout Africa.  RVA is an American curriculum school which  is ranked as one of the top schools in Africa which provides grades K-12.    The school is beautifully placed on the escarpment of the Rift Valley with a view of Mount Longonot.  The school has an enrollment of nearly 500 students, of which 350 comprise the high school.   These students come from 30 different passport countries, while their parents serve in 20 countries in Africa.    The school seeks to provide the best education, therefore most classes common to American schools, are found here in RVA.   Besides the core subjects, students may be involved in band, jazz band, choir, sports like Rugby, soccer (football here), girls field hockey, basketball, and tennis,  as well as drama, fine arts, foreign language, M.U.N. and more. Each year between 10 and 12 AP classes are offered.

About 93% of the students go on to colleges and universities all over the world. Every graduation, students leave to shape their world, studying at some of the finest educational institutions.

Students growing up in Africa have a very different world view from most of their peers in America. They understand the realities of poverty because they see people living in poverty on a weekly basis; they pray for rain clouds during seasons of drought and understand that water is a blessing, not a right; they discuss politics with students living in countries where freedom doesn’t look the same as it does in America; they live side-by-side with students from about 24 different countries;  they eat more chapattis and mandazi than pizza and ice cream;  chai is not an exotic coffee shop drink but it is a time of day and the locals' daily staple. Diversity is not a buzzword here, it’s our life!
